You can get so close to the Puffins on Skomer that the 400mm is too big!
It's a good job I took my Tamron 90mm Macro with me too;).

wow these just have to be the best looking birds ever........lol I so neeeeeeeeeeeddddddddd to go to skomer.....!! Anyone Fancy A Trip?? lol

Great shots as expected Glen, as for using a macro lens that just seems bonkers on a wild bird doesn't it.

I don't know if its my monitor or if conditions on they day were very sunny........but the whites to me seem very close to being over exposed.

Regardless of that, they are awesome photos.....!!

I think the whites are a bit close to being over blown Darren. It was a very sunny day and I always have trouble getting the exposure right on Black and White birds.

Before we got on the boat the warden said the puffins have no fear of people so you have to be careful not to step them. Some of the nest holes are right on the edge of the path and I just lay on the ground Photographing them. Wy wife was sat on a bench watching me and felt something run over her foot, when she looked down it was a Puffin with a beak full of fish:D:D.

great set of shots - that #2 is the winner though - just look at the detail in the feathers, and the lovely OOF backdrop
