recruiting students for workshops

how do you recruit students for workshops?

there is no English language camera magazine here. as a foreigner, I would not be permitted to advertise in any of the Japanese magazines, yes I know they are a bit strange like that.... you would have to be part of the Old Boy Network ;)

so how do you eat yours?

I know social networking can work. a lot of my clients have come to me via FB. yet Twitter and G+ are still a mystery. my blog still only has 12 followers, perhaps I don't mention 'street photography', 'troy ratcliffe' or 'tumblr' often enough.

I think some people are using workshops to get essentially free assistants. does anyone else concur with that? I don't disapprove, just thinking 'you crafty buggger' :)

Do you have a local equivalent of Craigslist or Angie's List?

Also - you can do targeted advertising via FaceBook - based on town, area, country etc, age, sex, occupation, keywords - it can get very specific.

you can pay per click-through and target say people from 25-45, within your city, who like PHOTOGRAPHY on Facebook.

Worth a look - I've used it very successfully

there is a Tokyo Craigslist, certainly. I had heard mixed stories about advertising on FB. A lot of colleagues in the social photography genre, said they tried it with disappointing results. Then again, selling the sizzle not the sausage, perhaps is the key.

and of course you're all welcome. the photowalk across Rainbow Bridge, just after sunset, is highly recommended!
