Saturday in Edinburgh - new batch

Rob MacKillop

Edinburgh Correspondent
A stroll through the Stockbridge area brought out these shots. All X100 and CS3.

First, Cafe Florentin:

I just darkened this to get rid of my reflection in the door window...

Discovered the Gradient adjustment...don't know who the people are.

Great old bench, darkened in Levels and desaturated a bit:

Chaos:

Liking the desaturation idea:

When we got to Princess Street, it was very foggy. I couldn't see the castle without the help of exposure compensation at -2, or was it +2??

Finally, stopped for a coffee. What can one do with skies like this?!

love these rob, you captured Stockbridge beautifully

Thanks, Paul. She may well be French. Edinburgh is very cosmopolitan these days. Stockbridge is a slightly bohemian area.

Thanks, Davie. Appreciated. Still waiting for your Edinburgh shots...

Love #2 - as others have noted, very French - maybe try even more of an angle on comps like this - really go with a slanted view?

Also love the Castle in the fog - very atmospheric, and a nice balance comp with the trees.

I do like that bench and the treatment you given it. I also like the door in that first shot...

There could be an interesting theme there to follow up, call it 'distressed paintwork' or something similar...

Great pictures, though...

What a great set Rob. I like the saturated colours in No 1 and the juxtaposition of scaffold and lamp. As for the flat sky, it helps focus the eye on the detail of the step and door. I'd probably crop square and lose the window on the right but I like the shot a lot as is. Have you trued the film grain simulation in LR yet?

Trued? Oh, 'tried'? Had me confused for a second :D No, I haven't. I'm trying not to get too attached to LR, as my free beta version runs out in a couple of days. And in the meantime I'm trying to get familiar with CS3. I will get a fully paid-up version of LR in a month or two. But I know what you are getting at - a touch of grain could help that shot. It might be possible to do it with CS3, but I haven't noticed it yet.
