Should I sell my 20mm?

I can't decide if it's worth keeping...
It's small and faster than the 16-35 but I can't see me using it much ...
I'm just being a bit fickle and need someone to tell me what to do ;)
I should get £300 for it really which is most of the way toward one of these

But that might well just be a peice of crap for all I know ... Dunno ... Your thoughts ..

Aw, I'd be tempted to buy it from you but just bought the 35mm. Can I have 1st refusal if you do want to sell it anyway. I will have to have a play and see what sort of view it would give me but I love a wide angle prime.

I consulted the all known oracle (WWW) on the T&S lens you mentioned. Apparently they can be very good, however they suffer with poor quality control so there are high number of stinkers out there......................

That had occured to me actually ... But all else fails I'll get sir brooks of joy mining to look it over (Tom :))
It would be a 30mm on your camera mate... With no af ... Still want first refusal??

At that FL I would use it mostly for hyperfocal shots anyway, just would need to calculate the actual focal distance but think is a factor of 1.6. I will get my WA zoom out and see what sort of shot 30mm gives me, might not be quite wide enough.

I too have the 20mm but I haven't used it for a long time. I suspect you won't either but, even if you do sell it, I'm not sure I'd get one of those T/S lenses you saw without actually playing with one. A number of the shots I've seen from one seem no better than a Lensbaby can achieve. Also, do you need T and S? If you just need shift, what about an older PC lens?

Nikon dx are for the most part (from memory) 1.56x ... So 31.2mm ...
So yeah, 30mm
It's less wide than than your kit lens though mate... It might be faster but only 2/3rds of a stop (yours is 3.5 at 18mm) ...
It's up to you really ... Your the second person I have tried to talk out of buying it now ... I just think it would be money better spent else where!

My main justification is for tilt for studio work for more dof... not less... ...

I would keep it until after your holiday when you have used the 16-35 for a while.
maybe take both on holiday and see what you think.

The budget tilt shift might not be sharp enough for pro quality tilt shift work, too cheap maybe :)

I have your cables in mind here mark ... So I guess you have as much right to this decision as me ;)
Good call on waiting until I get home from hols though

Just seems another bodge job Pete .. This lens seemed like a complete solution ...

I JUST WANT A CANON TSE NOW!

You can feel the Canoness drawing you closer - it whispers to you - tilt and shift... tilt and shift...

....feels like cheap plastic ... feel my cheap plastic ... Your right I can hear it ;)

The annoyin reality is of course that your right ... I spread my self to thin, trying to offer a very broad photographic service for my company means that really I could do with both systems ... In fact, with canons range of lenses I could probably just about manage with just a canon system ... But the nikon handling, low light capability, and personal bloody mindedness will prevent an out an out swap ... So I'll just have to make lots of money and buy both ... (wish me luck on that one!)

Hi Hamish, I think you were right in regards to the 20mm. I thought 30mm effective would be wide enough for what I need it for but it is not the case. I think I might try one of the Samyang 14mm primes at some point in the future. Hope you manage to sell it OK. Meantime have a good holiday mate.
