Sigma Quattro Pricing And Release Date

Not as expensive as I thought they might be. Not considering a purchase, as the Merrills do me nicely. Interesting, though, and I do like the look of them, odd though they are.

Thanks, Brian.

Sigma anounced mid week the price here in the uk is £899.99 end of July, so yes probably August. http://www.dpreview.com/news/2014/06/12/sigma-uk-gives-pricing-and-availability-for-dp2-quattro?utm_campaign=internal-link&utm_source=news-list&utm_medium=text&ref=title_0_9 .That is I belive £100 more than the Merrill release. I'll not bother with it, although the couple of samples they put up against another 36MP camera look impresive. http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/camera/dp-feature/The only temptation maybe the DP1Q, as the lens has been redesigned.

I have this week built myself a new computer from scratch using a decent workstation motherboard th P9Z79 E WS, an intell 4820k 2011 chip, although only quad core, 4 channels, is much more capable than my previous pc at handling the Merrils files. Could not aford the full 64GB of Ram first off, yet with the initial 16Gb I've loaded and improved CPUchip ,the SSP pro handles the Merrils files very well, far far quicker, not quite at the speed using Cs6 but much closer to that experience. This was probable the only thing about the Merrils that bugged me was the slow proccessing. Hopefully the new SSP that will be released with the Quottro's will have been improved.

Interesting ... I'm still trying to find justification to buy a fancy sigma. I do wonder if the Quattro will help find that

@Hamish Gill @Brian Moore @Rob MacKillop I came across these Beta jpeg samples posted on http://digitalcamera.jp/html/HotNews/image/2014-06/17/sigma_dp2Q_beta/
They are high Jpeg of

5,424×3,616.
Know idea if they were shot in Raw, if not as far as detail goes the Raw shot files are possibly as far as detail goes quite exceptional . overall quality for more creative use? Time will tell.

I have two of the files which are downloadable here at my drop box, much faster than that web site.

They do look good, though the images themselves are far from inspiring. More creative use to come, undoubtedly. I'm not in the market, being perfectly happy with the Merrils, but I'll keep an interested eye on what people do with these quattros.

Yes I am also not interested at the moment to purchase. As most new camera's they are flavour of the month, sometimes day. I am interested in the development of these cameras to a certain level. I am looking forward to the new Raw converter more so than anything else.

I am getting one to test as soon as it becomes available & Nigel & myself of landscapedays.com will be out for the weekend putting it to the test, we both love what the current range of DP's give out & we are told that these new ones are going to be a lot sharper as the lens is hand built to the body & the tollerences's are much much greater so it may well turn out to be the sharpest set up on the planet ??
Will let you know when sorted. For black & white shooting I do not think anything comes near the Sigma's myself, something about the Foveon sensor that just delivers brilliant resulst & is very much under rated.
