Slide Rock State Park

Got a later start than planned, but headed over to Slide Rock this morning.

This is an area I photographed in the snow over new year, and I wanted to get back and shoot it now the spring run-off was in full swing.

Here's the old apple orchard, framed by the red rocks

And here's the old building where the Apples were pressed for cider ;)

And here's Slide Rock itself, a natural water park, with water spilling over slippery rocks into numerous pools.

I will have to return early morning, and/or on an overcast day, to really get the water flow, rock colours, and reflections.

Great locations - lots of possibilities.

Wow this is an amazing place! I really cant wait to venture to more amazing places with my camera to get some landscapes! =p

Slide the map to look just a little North for the rock slide area

Nice job of handling such a bright situation. A couple months ago I hike Bear Canyon near Tucson and found similar conditions. I got a few good shot by using ND filters and taking three sets of bracketed shot then blending them together. It allowed me to smooth the water and still retain the highlights.

I too was hoping for a day with some nice clouds but with the drought in Southeast Az, there were endless days of deep blue skies.

Dennis - it's kind of tragic that we hope for overcast weather, but sometimes bright sun just isn't what you need! LOL

Polarizer, ND and f22 on shot #3 gave me some water blur - but really not ideal lighting conditions.

I love Sedona but haven't been there in years. Your shots make me want to go back. I like that first shot, but the architecture photographer in me wants to correct the verticals :-)

Naaaaaaaa, the trees grew like that, honest! ;)
