Tech Support (and Marketing)
Sony have announced a new compact camera by the name of the RX100... with 1" sensor.
That's a bigger sensor than the massive majority of compact camera including the likes of the fuji x10... It also looks to be tiny compared to most larger sensor compact cameras!

The best place to find out info on this release is DPR as they have done a preview and have camera size comparison Just Posted: Sony DSC-RX100 preview with sample images: Digital Photography Review

Looks very interesting I think ... although quite a few £££'s by the looks of it!

Could we finally be seeing the beginning of the end of the small sensor digi compact ...
well they gotta do something to make them more interesting than the average phone

I nearly just pm'ed you directly after I found this out as I thought I might be the ideal camera for you!
Im tempted my self ... But the price is a bit prohibative for me
this is the same sensor size as the Nikon 1 but looks a lot smaller!

Yeah, some funny stuff on DPR eh arguments about sensor size, pixel density etc etc heard it all before!

The 650d comments are even more funny ... People are actually arguing the Nikon v Canon argument!

Just to add ... I'm realy pleased to see compact cameras with bigger sensors coming out left right and centre the market had stagnated for so long as IMO manufacturers could get away with small sensors as the consumer market didn't demand anything more! Now the mobile phones are nipping at their ankles it seems they are having to pull something more out the bag! Hopefully in a couple of years this sort of gear will be the average compact! Just think, consumers with shallow DOF how the world changes ;)
