Cribbed the idea for this from a magazine...

Used up a rainy afternoon quite nicely today.

The background is on my PC monitor and I hand held the glass in front of it, and then experimented for ages to get the right effect. What do you think?

Very nice effect Tim. What do you think it would be like with the saturation pushed up a bit on the purple?

Thats a good idea. For detail shots you could use a monitor as a backlight or even a softbox and you have an unlimited variation of backdrops. Its really lit up the glass well and evenly.

I like it Tim. Now all it needs is a border! Rather than black I usually pick the darkest tone in the image. Maybe the area at the top of the stem. What do you think?

This is a great image. And I like the way some editing and processing has brought out more than where you started.

By the way, the hardest part of composing the shot was holding the glass exactly parallel to the diagonals, and at the right distance from the PC screen (and right focus) to get the thinner lines down the stem.

I've found a few pegs, clamps and bluetack helps with that.
