Started a New Photography Blog

It's really aimed at my friends who don't visit RPF (there are one or two).
Still, comments welcome.

Nice Rob!
I'll have a proper look on my computer tomorrow...
How are you finding Wordpress? I'm building a blog my self on Wordpress at the mo, I forgot how damn frustrating I find it!
To top it off, I forgot to buy the domain so when I went to launch it tonight ... No domain ... Moron! :)

Well very cool.
I really like that Leith shot. Stunning.

I enjoy is type of blog - interesting photography, and some of the story behind the shots. I'll be checking in.

Thanks, guys.

Hamish - Wordpress: I have a few of their blogs, and manage a couple for friends. Yes, they can be frustrating, but overall I like their clean presentation, and you get a decent site for free. I do add more storage space for mp3 files. I can do a little html, so can look under the hood when I need to. I suppose a lot depends on the template you choose, how flexible it is - some of them have little or no options, while others are very flexible, and some offer Pro levels where you can change everything, at a cost.

But overall, I would say they are the main guys for blogs, and there is a good community forum to help out when needed.

I need to learn to use WordPress, the owner of the Scottish Tourism site I write for has been nagging at me for ages lol He says if I learn it I can just upload my own content

It's not hard Davie! I've been using it on and off for about 3 years now for various blog sites ...
As Rob says, it can be frustrating at times though!

That pretty much echos my feelings Rob... If it was the be all and end all I'd be out of a job. Thankfully there is still a place in the world for custom developed "real" websites ...

Rob, you created a thread a short while ago ''The Art of Visual Art'' I read it and have a few ideas about your questions. Giving it a lot of thought and then trying to reply, I say 'trying' as it is such a long subject to write about it in my case it would be a novel. Having several attempts I felt bad in a way of not joining in with the discussion and if what I said helped in a tiny way or gave more ideas to think about it cannot be a bad thing. Hopefully. One thing I know about what you present here on RFP and comes across to me, I am sure to others also, is, the spontaneity, the ability not to worry about ''Being a Photographer'' A freshness and a creative angle that is very meaningful. So along with this reply and in reply to your other post, many and most if not every pic you do has a meaning and a link into each other on a journey of discovery, that oozes ideas that are at times implemented to their fullest and in a superb way. I would almost be inclined to say their is a naivety that is the delight, but it is more than that, it is almost as if the naivety is not naivety but raw talent. Whatever it is it works and as here, the images are superb. The answer to your question in the other thread is, to carry on what you are doing, it works.

One question. How do you know may 13th 2013 is the wettest day on record, when May has not yet finished? OK Ok so far .

Well, thanks Julian. It's always nice to get support in whatever you are doing. Naive - certainly. And it is great to have a place where I can be myself. Now, as a pro musician, I know that naivety can be a great thing, but I also know it can only take you so far. At some point you have to do the homework, and for me that is both technical and cultural. How do I do such and such, and how have people coped with these situations in the past.

Being a musician helps a lot. Rhythm, harmony, counterpoint, melody, mood, consonance, dissonance - I see all these in images, but that has come to me late in life. I'm beginning to see visual art in the way I experience music. So, yes, I will carry on doing what I do, even when some of it looks poor or sounds ridiculous.

Thanks to everyone here for continued support, even when I slip off piste!

excellent stuff Rob - I'm in :)

Rob, if you post these updates as new threads, add the featured image in the post, an excerpt and a link to the post I can promote them to articles for the home page of this website ... and make you a "featured blogger" ... you could even put a link in the articles to here saying "featured on rpf" if you wanted to ... that way we get a bit of back and forth linking and its good for our search engine optimisation (yours especially)

Rob,

You are now on the home page as a guest blogger ...
So, 2 things...

If you can put a link to us on the home page of your blog that would be great ... not to worry if you cant ...

also, hugo doesnt show on the home page ... only on posts ... is there a way to get him on the home page? Ive made it so when you click hugo its a little clearer what the game is ...

your thoughts?

OK, thanks for that. It has come at a time when I'm very busy - two seminars to give this weekend at the Edinburgh Guitar Festival - but I'll do my best to get it done asap. I'm trying to keep my front page very minimal, so I'll have to think about where it will go, but I'd love to reciprocate.
