Stones in still water

Nice composition. There's a bit too much contrast between the rocks and the water for my taste.

Thank you for your honest opinion!
Thank you for not taking offense. I hesitate to criticize the photographs of someone who is quite obviously a more accomplished photographer than am I. The only thing that gives me enough confidence to do so is that, while I lack in the skill department, I do believe I have a good eye. That makes me a better critic than photographer.

I think that this is very interesting, especially to me and apparently also to Rense and John. I feel as John here and actually in all his writing right here. I also appreciate how Rense receives the critique. Maybe we should be more free to comment on what we think could be different. It is a balance and of course a very subjective thing to do. But it may make us able to see it from another viewpoint and that can never be wrong. It demands tact though. We do not want to hurt anyone. So Rense, I too would have liked the stones a little lighter. And I too have good eyes when the specs are nicely balanced on my nose.

Well, I think there is only good in sincere critiques! I kind of like this one myself (duh, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it, wouldn't I?), but one needs others with the same passion to grow. Save the rod, spoil the child, so to say. So, I am always open for criticism, because it learns me to look in another way, and not to be satisfied to easily.

I will try it with some 'enlightened' ( :D ) rocks, although I am not convinced beforehand that it will be better. I came from a lighter version after all.... Oh, and again: it could be my monitor too which makes this pleasing for my eyes. Should probably invest in some professional calibration....

I'll come up with a lighter one!

Oh, and just another comment: I like the atmosphere here very much. It's a bit slow (we're all a bit older? EDIT: except Rob, he's just in his twenties, I understood just a minute ago), but very friendly. Or, must I say, thus very friendly? Or has it to do with the 'Real' in the forum title? Don't know, but this makes that critique is never offensive in any way, as far as I am concerned.

Just a note...

I think it's the water that wants to go darker myself, Rense. I like the tonality of the rocks very much.

That's one of the ways to go, I realised a few minutes ago. Probably, I'll have to see the original photo (which was not too brilliant, I must confess), and see what I can do. Probably I'll post a poll with seventeenthousendfourhundredandfiftyone possibilities....
