Found this great iPad app, specifically designed for photographers - allowing you to view anywhere on Google Maps, and see photo locations and example photo's at those locations.
Stuck On Earth - Free World Travel Guide for iPad on the iTunes App Store
As you zoom around the Google Map, points of interest show up, with associated photo thumbnails. You click on the thumbnail for a larger version of the photo taken at that location.
You can then store interesting target locations into your own trip lists, ready to go and shoot.
Easy to drive on the iPad - and there are tens of thousands of image locations around the world.
