Sunday afternoon in Hyde Park

An alternative view to Jim's earlier post.

Our main destination of the day was the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. To be honest, I did not find it very inspiring; it was noisy, crowded, full of bright multi-coloured machines and other unnatural stuff ... all in all just not my kind of thing.

To my surprise, however, as I go through processing the pictures I found them much more interesting in black and white. The texture comes through and, with less colours, gives them more focus.

Here are some I would like to share :-)

What a great series Priya. And the lack of colour does indeed make you appreciate the textures and forms more. I like the speaker very much (can you squeeze a touch more light into his face?) - reminds me of the David Byrne film (True Stories) - he certainly has a zealous look about him. And the Santa is wonderful as are the bottles. Those deck chairs really turned out to be a great subject for both of you didn't they.

Nice set, I like them all very much but it's the deck chair one for me. nice contrast of peoples idea of relaxing

It really is a wonderful set of images. And I think the B&W treatment is exactly correct. For me the picture that appeals most for some reason is the one with all the legs hanging down. There is something about them being helpless now, and at the mercy of the machine. They're all excellent, though!

What great observation of detail, and use of depth of field.

I love the deckchairs - the one guy facing the other way is interesting - he looks very British! :D

The bottles shot is a stunner - I would have walked straight past this I'd bet.

Then that last shot with the leaves, and the avenue of trees out of focus - very nice

Yes Chris, the bottle shot is also one of my favourites, I completely missed the close-up details like the bottles and santa statues...

You 2 are quite the shooting companions arent you!
It's interesting to see 2 people's shots from the same outing!
Some great photography!

Yes Hamish :). I am always quite surprised by the vast differences rather than similarities in our pictures from the same outings.
