Sunday trip - oh for a filter!

Rob MacKillop

Edinburgh Correspondent
Managed to get myself on a train early this morning to South Queensferry - the other side of the Forth Bridge. It's a beautiful little village, nestling just beneath and between the two bridges - rail and road - across the river Forth near Edinburgh.

Well it was/is the sunniest day of the year by far, and when I arrived the morning haar (mist) was lifting. Very beautiful! I really felt I could have done with a filter to help get more detail, but managed a few not-bad shots. I'll just include a couple here, but the rest can be found at Flickriver: Photos from RobMacKillop

Holy cr@p Rob - you're on fire with this set - stunning! :)

Love the man and his reflection on #1, with the lovely colors and that blur of motion from the bridge outside.

The the bridge(s) in the haar - man you got some fantastic light there - you could go a hundred times and not get that - wonderful.

The comp with the anchor in the foreground - wonderful! :)

Half man is slightly disturbing - very cool

Amazing set AGAIN Rob, you truly know how to used that x100 to its best.........!!

whats the story about you very strange last shot ??

Really loving the bridge shots, Great work

Daz

Thanks guys. The last shot - it's this brass guy outside the gallery of modern art, stuck in the tarmac. I just saturated the hell out of it, and got this cosmic effect. I thought it looked funny.

I think there are some better shots at the link I gave at the top. Really, with such amazing scenery, it's hard to screw up. On the other hand, it's easy to screw up in Photoshop...not always happy with my choices.

Played with the ipad3 in a shop yesterday. Called up my Flickr site and had a look at the retinal display - amazing! I won't buy another iPad until version 5...but that retinal display thing is going to be amazing for pp editing. I tend to overdo everything - levels, saturation, etc - sometimes I like the madness of it, but sometimes I wish I was more subtle.

Are you having me on Rob?!
You come here, telling us your your new to photography.......... then BOOOOMMM!! Have some of that folks!!
Is there something your not telling us?? :D:D:D
STUNNING sets time and time again! Those bridge shots are the dogs dinner with desert!! :)

My fav is the anchor with the bridge disappearing into the mist. But all have nice comp and colors. Really nice set.

Oh, Dan, you rumbled me. I work for Magnum. The secret is out...NOT! LOL! Thanks for all the encouragement, guys. I'm really enjoying it.

Rob, I think you've been a photographer for years and are just pretending to be a beginner!
These are great!!!

My fave is shot three, I like the sun trying to break through the cloud and the bridge disappearing into the mist.... Top Shot:).

Hi Jim. Erm...that's just the way they came out. The X100 allows for a certain colouring of the image, based on classic film types. I think that one was set to Velvia.
