Super-hi jpeg Quattro option

The Quattro offers a super-hi quality jpeg or around 13MB. If good enough, for many images there would be no need to shoot higher, and no need to use Sigma Photo Pro. So I thought I would do a comparison.

All images reduced to jpeg and 1200 pixel length.

Original TIFF at same settings: (surprisingly dark at the same settings. Obviously I would change this before shooting).

I don't think the super-hi jpeg compares favourably to the edited raw file. Do you?

No, I think the edited file has more punch and seems more 'real' if that makes sense. It might produce better results in portraits though.

I'll still be shooting raw. I don't mind SPP. I try one or two things there, then export as a tiff to Lightroom.

More detail in the higher res image, as would be expected. How large are the tiff files after export from SPP?

Just under 40MB. I guess it depends on how much work you do on them before exporting.

The TIFFs are 40MB? Its interesting, the Merrill (excuse me,...McKillop) TIFFs I export from SPP (16 bit) come out at a whopping 88MB.

Yes. I'm a bit confused. I was working on some last week at over 70 megs, but the ones I looked at today were 40. Mind you, they were almost all 21:9 format, so there was a lot cut out.

I thought that was a bit low at 40mb. The uncompressed 16-bit tiff images for my D7200 are 137mb after export from LR. They are 118mb when saved with zip compression. I haven't checked 8-bit tiffs. I wonder why the difference? Could it be the smaller dimensions of the Foveon sensor?
