Sx-70 Vs. Instax 210 Shootout

Somebody gave me a Polaroid SX-70 a couple of years ago and I have never shot any film with it. However, I bought a pack of Impossible Projects new color emulsion and the first image below is the first image from it. Below that is an image I took with my new Instax 210 and Fuji film. I had been considering getting an Instax 210 for quite a while but I kept procrastinating until I saw the excellent shots @Rob MacKillop's took with his, and then I had to have one.

The subjects in these first two images are my elder daughter Caiti and her BF, whose name is Tucker. (His dad likes cars.)

Below the first two I've included a couple of other Instax shots just for the hell of it. (I haven't shot any other images with the SX-70 yet because the film is too damn expensive to shoot in cavalier fashion.

Very nice Brian - interesting to see the difference between the two systems and films.

The Polaroid appears to have greater sharpness, but the Fuji film has nicer colors (to me)

The 2nd and 3rd instax shots are very moody - you had fog up your way then, or have you been out and about?

I like the old orange pickup in the drizzle - very evocative

Impressed with the extra detail you get with the wider instax - much more useable than the mini I think

You're correct, @Chris Dodkin. More sharpness in the SX-70 image, but better colors in the Fuji. However, the Impossible Project image actually looks a bit nicer (and sharper) in real life. The colors are tiny bit better, but not that much.

Yes we had fog up here this morning.

Thanks, Chris.

Ha ha! Good on you, Brian. I've noticed that the Instax shots can look sharp enough at the size they are printed at, but after scanning they do not happily expand in size (I think there is an easier way to describe that, but I'm still half asleep).

Love the red truck in the fog!

Interesting shots Brian. I still like the look and feel of the old roids...beyound the majic. It's all about waxing nostalgic about old stuff I think. The two trucks are an example. Nobody can argue that the newer is technically an order of magnitude better. It just doesn't get my attention...in a good way.

Thanks, Rob. I know exactly what you mean! (But then, I just got up so I'm half asleep too!)

Thanks, Glenn. I agree with you about the look and feel of the old polaroid images. Even though its not Polaroid film, it still has something of that look and feel. And curiously enough, despite being brand new, the tones of the colors look as if they have been aged, or as if they are digital and have been rendered old looking in post production.
