The British Journal of Photography Magazine more about Photography than Gear

I had to travel to London today and just before boarding the train back I had a nose in WH Smiths for Something to read. The photography section seemed awash of publications that seemed mostly to contain reviews, adverts, Photoshop tutorials and not a great deal about photography. At £6.99 per issue the BJP is expensive but you do get a high quality, well published magazine that contains some stunning photography. Its has more of a fine art bent to it and the photography seems a bit overly polished, reminiscent of the product from the London based art colleges. However there is no denying that the photography gives you a lot to aspire too. The website is a bit of a navigational nightmare but has loads of useful and interesting information. IMHO well worth a look even if you have to fight your way around the online maze to find the good bits.

I have subscribed for years and I agree, it is one of the better magazines. Kind if missed it when it stopped being weekly and went (back) to being monthly but am used to it now. The other I like is Ag. And, there is a new issue of Diffusion pending!

Is it me or is it that many so called photography magazines aren't actually about photography. Conversely National Geographic isn't about photography but has some of the most wonderful photography I have ever seen.

There are a lot of camera mags and camera/photography mags as opposed to dedicated photography mags
Amateur photographer is worth subscribing to for a year ...
Reading the relative specs of cameras can be a useful part of a learning curve into how to use a camera, especially when it is along side tutorials and examples of how to use the specs ...
The problem is, I think many mags seem sort of run out of things to write about so after a year or so you see re hashed or re done articles ...

I get Arizona Highways magazine here because it has some of the most inspiring landscape and nature photography in it's pages - simply stunning.
