Actually, I have just read the Telegraph article and it is hopelessly inaccurate. John's own account is much better as are other ones that I've read.

Hilarious, though. I think I saw it mentioned on the BBC news. Certainly saw it somewhere. He gets around.

He makes light of the experience but he is a close friend and I know it still haunts him and he was very lucky too. He has since done the walk again with a guide. It turns out that the sign had been moved (by groundsmen of someone) and the trail he followed was not the footpath at all. The real route is much clearer.

Yes, he is lucky to be alive. Scary. Just shows have close society can be to a complete breakdown. We depend on electricity for almost everything. Cut the power feed, and we'd go crazy pretty quickly. Few of us could survive in the jungle, urban or otherwise.
