Dear Moderators of this fine Forum, there have been a number of instances where new members have placed an image or more than one in the Photography Showcase, expecting comments. I'm wondering if we need an official Welcome Pack style of thing, saying how to use this place?

Er yes, as in we did it in red and concealed it in the tree structure of the forum. Berried!
