I say my favourite place to grab a landscape, true in that this spot I can park in a gate way and grab a shot. Always changing as the landscape does. Taken today adds another photograph of this scene to the album , but this time in B+W.

One day 'll get a stoaker from here when the light is right , one day.

Sigma DP3

Keep trying, Julian! It's good, but only serves to hint at the killer shot you will have one day soon :) What made you use the DP3?

Thanks Rob, trouble is I always pass this spot in the missle of the day, must stop off in the evening or early morning sometime. I used all three DP12&3 . The Dp3 ones came out best for me as I like the foreshortening that the longer focal length gives. Those clay tips in the distance are aprox seven or eight miles away, which can get a bit lost in wide shots.
Here's a DP1 a rough process of same scene same time.

Often wide angle lenses are referred to as landscape lenses by some. Any lens is appropriate for what t
Nice comparison and a superb first image. I like it very much and the range of tones is very nice.

Thanks Pete, on reflection I am not certain about the Black boarders but it seemed ok at the time

A wonderful way of doing it, showing perspectives in different lenses, now maybe the two shall be the one. But I see your point, you are not quite there yet. By the way, wasn't this place you photographed earlier on in colour and more compressed Julian? Or am I mistaken?

You are correct Ivar, I have photographed this many times and look forward to being there in the future. It was the scene that I got onto a charity calendar . I like the changes throughout the year of the ploughed fields, growing crops or the harvesting. My favourite combination for this used to be the 5Dkmk2 and 200mm f2.8L which did foreshorten the scape a lot.

Two fine landscape shots in any mans language. Really enjoying the folds and textures in the patch work fields of the first. Actually the big black borders look as though you have just matted them and made them ready for the frame and wall.

I really like your initial image, Julian. The patchwork landscape and it's texture work well in B&W of course.
Being that you visit this place often, I bet another photograph taken with some variable shafts of light over those fields would be very dramatic...

Thank you Tom for the reassurance.

Yes I do have some with shafts of light. To some extent what can make or break this spot are the farming practises. Especially when the crops are cut or driven through, it adds another dimension with textures.
