this guy gets points off for the extremely loud computer fan in the background, but the technique is one of my favorites when shooting in a crowded place. he didn't even bother to use a tripod. there is a way to get photoshop to do the process that he does by hand automagically, but it has it's quirks and flaws.

Love using layer masks, used them to put things in to backgrounds, often better than creating a cut out, especially is only using the subject once, difficulty comes if you want to do hair masking when cut out is much needed, thanks for posting Beth these little tutes are always a good reminder
