This one needs some explanation, except for the huge crowd of Dutchies over here...
Vroom & Dreesman, abbreviated V&D is an established brands in the Netherlands. It's one of those general stores, and this particular one was established in 1887 by Willem Vroom and Anton Dreesman... hence the name. You could find them in all larger cities in the Netherlands.
The add in the journal of 1934 in the window says "VROOM & DREESMAN: een BAKEN in ZEE", which translates as a beacon in sea (do you write beacon like this???) The irony is: V&D went bankrupt just a couple of months ago....
I myself love this one because of the historical notion, but I think the astonished look of the fellow at the far right adds some emotion to it....
