I was out in DC for work a few weeks ago, and was able to get out into the city a bit after my meetings to take a few shots, and also of the airport as I was leaving:

Swedish Embassy
Yes, that's a beaver in the canal, right in the city center of our nation's capital!

there's too much to do in dc. the first shot of dulles is my favorite of the group. also liked the shots of the arboretum, i used to love visiting the arboretum, definitely need to go back there soon.

i think the swedes had the beaver imported.. ;)

Thanks, Beth. I have an office in Reston so am there frequently (and have been now for over 15 years). Never a shortage of things to do and photograph. But never seem to have much time...

I'm wondering the same thing about the beaver!

As usual these are very nice. I'm wondering though, what causes the inference bands in the second photo, the one at night?

Love the carefully positioned airliners Darren - and the beaver of course

The first four taken at twilight are my favorites - you really know how to make the most out of that time of day

Assume you take a tripod with you on these trips?

It's a nice area, Beth. It's like a second home for me.

Thanks, Lesley. The beaver was my favorite part, too!

Thanks, Ralph. Not sure what you mean about the interference bands in the second photo, though. Do you mean the lines on the balconies? There are done with a faux wood grain imprinted on the glass, as a bit of a tongue-in-cheek nod towards the Swedish wood-working heritage. The lighting is just fluorescent tubes, I believe. Does that answer your question? Let me know what I'm missing, otherwise.

Thank you, Chris. Glad you noticed the MD-80! I believe that was the same aircraft in both photos - just on different days. Both photos were taken at basically the same time of day. Likely the same AA flight out of National.

Balancing light temperatures and intensity at that time of day is a fast-moving game, as you know. I like the challenge.

And yes, I had a small travel tripod with me. I have one that fits nicely in my carry-on that I always bring with me on these trips.
