Dan Down - The Steampunk Womble
I got the first roll of Kodacolor 200 developed which I put through the OM10 Saturday.
I got excited and polished off 24 exposures within an hour .'/

Anyway, with the T20 flash attached and the preset auto shutter running at 1/60th, everything seemed okay.

Agreed? Exposure fine

Then this is the bit I don't understand.

A clue I may add, is that the winder I bought from eBay was in the sellers attic for years........ And, that's about it really. Lol. Whether it needed 'loosening' in or not?
I may try some with the flash again, but every shot after that roll has been fine.
Lost in this one guys. Any ideas?

Is it possible that you could have accidentally knocked the shutter speed up to 1/125s? That look like the result of too fast a sync speed. The OM10 has a horizontal shutter and that would give the dark band.

How about a square crop Dan? ;)

Haha!! Thought you'd say something about square cropping it Pete. Lol.

Your probably right there Pete. But I'm concerned that its threw the rest of my shots out of line too. :/
I'll post them on here tomorrow as I've put the dam laptop away now. But I have frames with other frames merged in it.
I tell you what, ill post the whole set tomorrow :)

thats def shooting at a speed too fast for the flash to sync too ...
if you are getting half frames mixed with other half frames it maybe the hard black edge of frame cut by the shutter is confusing the scanner into thinking ti is seeing the edge of a frame. If you are scaning them your self the best bet will be to rescan but manually select each frame. sounds like a ball ache, but once you get going its pretty easy as you can duplicate your frame selections from one to the next

I agree, must of got too excited and just rushed things without thinking about it.
Guys, I think that's the answer come to think about it. Out of sync flash, thus causing confusion on the scanner.
Cheers chaps
Maybe I didn't have it on 60th of a sec after all. Just really weird that I never changed anything during the three shots and they turned out different ,'/ strange thing. Lol

Maybe the shutter speed isn't as accurate as it should be?

you joke Beth, but the are film cameras that imprint the shutter speed and aperture between each frame.
The Nikon f80s for eg ... Not to mention apps film being able to carry such data ... So ner [ner]

(I should add a [ner] emoticon)

One of the accessories I have decided to get to use with film cameras, is a small notebook and pen

So I can remember what settings I used!

Dan have you thought about getting an om1? That's a real mans camera!
even an om2 if you like the automation of aperture priority ... ?

You know what H, that's a good shout and I did lose a couple of bids on the Bay for an OM1.... But seeing as I've got the 10, I'm going to stick with it and use it thoughtfully...... Like I did with my Sunday explore. Lol.
Saturday I just snapped away thinking that it forgave me like digital does. [doh]
These mistakes cost me money. Lol

Lesson learned...... For now :)
If it happens again, I think there might be a problem. If not, then excellent! :)

Dan , You are using a manual adapter yes? I had trouble with the one I had, mainly because I didn't follow Analogue rule number 1 - Slow The Fluck Down!!! and then Rule Number 2, Check everything is set before moving onto Rule Number 3........Check you haven't changed everything....

Seriously agree with what has already been said about sync speed but you are right toi stick with the old bird, I loved my OM10 with gadgets trouble was someone else did too and they stole it while I was away.......I know love my OM30 but it still needs ARN1 ----- Slow the Fluck Down :-)

Taken on board KK.
Manual adaptor is attached, but as you said, number one rule was broken! Lol

For me, film photography is more of an exercise in being prepared and working with the gear within its limitations
Any given circumstance - check you gear before you are looking to shoot and be aware of what you are trying to achieve baring in mind the limitations or otherwise of your gear.

As an example, yesterday I was walking around the Tate modern with Hannah (it's our anniversary :)). As per usual all I could be bothered to shoot with was my Ricoh.
Im indoors, I have a 2.8 lens and a roll of 400iso film. And i have no real control over the shutter. I know this is going to limit me but I don't really care.
the Ricoh tells me if I'm below 1/30th ... I'm happy as larry shooting at 1/30th so as long as I don't see that flashing indicator I'll shoot.
so, in a room that looks like there is enough light. Check by pointing the camera into the room ... All fairly averagely lit rooms. Either I have enough light or I don't ... If I don't, dial in a bit of negative exposure comp. I don't mind a bit of under exposure! If that makes the indicator stop blinking I know I'm good. If it doesn't I know I need a wall to lean against or a bit of modernartpod to use. AF does its thing and I can just shoot in that room with that bit of knowledge built in.

The point of saying all this, I don't want to contradict Kev to much, as fundamentally I agree... But don't let that "slowing down" element actually slow you down when it comes to the moment of shot. Take the time in the preparation, and just remember that each change of circumstance might need that preparation
