What have I done?!

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
I wasn't going to mention it for a few days, but I've been tinkering with a blog this afternoon. I've never done a proper one before and I have absolutely no idea how they are used. I've just published thinking I can fiddle with the layout and people are already liking and following. Eeek!

Do you follow everyone back? Is there a limit to this? I don't have time to read very much, but I want to join in. Oh my goodness, this is scary!

Well, I'd like to follow back, but this guy is in Zagreb! Is there some kind of translation tool in there?

I think it's here my elements blog | random thoughts of an amateur photographer only I expected it to be without the wordpress bit. I did buy the myelementsblog.com domain. I'm very confused right now...

Is this Lesley in panic mode? LOL...OMG (as the young ones say)...someone is interested in what I have to say? Doesn't surprise me at all.

Lesley, Wordpress.com provides a hosted solution and as I understand it you get a Wordpress domain.
If you want your own domain you need hosting (which of course you have) ... But you also need to be familiar databases, which I know you aren't.

Wordpress.org is what you want if you don't want the hosted solution ...

Thanks Hamish - I'm still confused, but I can read more tomorrow. As a matter of fact, I am familar with databases, or at least the Access kind. I built a huge one about twelve years ago that basically covers the whole of my old job, with literally dozens of tables, queries, forms and a few macros thrown in for good measure. I've even coded a few union queries :)

I'm talking about databases for websites - SQL ones. You told me once you knew nothing about that sort of website.
That said, creating/migrating a Wordpress site is very easy as long as you have access to cpannel or the like. (Which of course you do ... At least via me :))

Thanks Hamish - we figured it out. I did buy the domain, but Wordpress decided to give it to me free with the package. When it put up a warning message that I had a free domain, I assumed it was extra and ignored it. I think we've pushed the right buttons now, but maybe the domain will take a day or so to show up... :)
