Worcesters latest addition nearing completion

Ha! Me and the wife passed it yesterday and wasn't sure what to make of it. It is a dramatic change in Worcester's architectural aspect so far and something like this hasn't been constructed (currently still ongoing) before that offers such an interesting material for photography.
Some may quote it being an eyesore and others a great futuristic improvement to the city, my opinion on it is reserved at present untill I see and ponder around the finished article.
Another gripping structure that's currently bieng developed in Worcester is the new complex Asda supermarket that stands on the grounds of what was once the Worcester vinegar works.
Should be very stimulating to see the vaults after construction (believe to be transformed into a cafe) as I have a before shot (and after will be soon once opened to the public).
Great hot KK!! I can't wait to get inside! :)

DD I've been past the ASDA build most nights on way to/from Youth Centres and keep threatening to stop, but the moment has just not been right for me,................YET but it will :D

I'm not sure I like it ... The building that is ... Although I also have full intentions going to take some photos when it's all done!
I want to see how it ages, I'm not sure what the metal skin is made of but surly it will age?
My worry for it is a streakiness to the ageing as water runs off it ... But maybe I'm wrong
One way or another I prefer the old Worcester infirmary and chapple building on the othe side of the viaduct... But then I find my self liking buildings of that sort of style quite a lot!

It looks like giant size chinese take-out boxes - if they do orange chicken, I'm in! :D

The same was said about the Tech Hamish when that went up, that had a bright lime cladding and folk said that it would look stark against the cathedral backdrop but it has aged ok for a big cereal box.......:D:D

To me it looks like its designed by someone who was trying a bit to hard to do something a bit out there
It looks like it was designed without much experience... Maybe somone just out of uni or somthing
I think good architecture is distinctive but complimentary to its surroundings ...
I also like to e able to look at a building a work out why a design feture has been chosen ... I can't do that here
The bull ring in Birmingham is a good example of something that required a bit of thinking about

When you see it for the first time "what the hell is that" the. A bit of thought and you realise that some of the reasoning, on the most basic level would have been that there is no need for windows on that side of he building. It sounds a bit of a daft thing to say... But in my head, of that was the starting point to get to this then fair enough! You can't just have a fetureless wall, so make the whole wall a feture!

But what was the reasoning behind these buildings in Worcester?
I don't look at them and see any justification other than design for designs sake ... Maybe I shouldn't have a problem with that, I'm not sure I do ... But there is somthing about these buildings that irritates me ...
A bit showy in times of recession too maybe ...
Dunno ...
Maybe I'll grow to like them

If you look around the county you'll see examples of supposedly appropriate design, The Fire Station in Malvern Link next to the Railway Station is one such example, it won Architecture Trade awards yet looks like a ruddy toblerone box, it was said that it was designed that way so is would fit in with the hills, In my mind the hills are rolling hill, no angles in them at all. Yet now, it has become part of the man-made landscape as much as the Tech College has and so will this I guess. I must admit to thinking of it more as some eastern religious building than might be seen on the outskirts of Brum rather than a public building in the heart of Worcester. But I also feel that despite being constantly dazzled by it when the sun is low and hits it it will give the city a new vibrancy and possibly bring it up to date with other university cities, I think That is what the design is all about really because that is all that Worcester will be soon, just a large Uni Campus.......
