More on the website - many of them are just meh IMHO - odd choice to launch a camera!

Looks like they've done a nice hood for the lens as well

I am aware of the practical reasons for a vented design to the lens hood ... But Blimey, it adds a whole other dimension of poshness to the design ... Maybe it's all the expensive (more than the cost of this whole camera) Leica lenses it now looks like :)

I find sample photos a bit redundant unless directly demonstrating attributes ...

Exactly, specially when the come from the company. Nice pictures of flowers and kid, nothing the least bit chancy. Even on review sites like DPReview, I feel that the sample images say as much about the shooter as the camera. Reviewers are unlikely to post their dreck on line, if indeed they actually shot some. Even when pushing the edge, unless one really knows the circumstances of the shot, the image tells little.

I recently added a section of available darkness shots to my web site. What is most remarkable is that the shots don't look remarkable. They look quite effortless, though without a D700 or D3 and a bit of experience, they would be nearly impossible.

With a number of Leica lenses, the shades are 'vented' or at least partially vented to reduce the cutoff they cause in the viewfinder. I wonder if this is the same reason here (it looks like it might overlap a bit) or, as Hamish says, it might be in increase the poshness quotient (I guess that would be Qp)!
