A genius idea for cheap image stabilisation

Hi guys,

I came across an absolutely genius idea for image stabilisation without the need for a fancy lens or tripod.

It's not my idea but I wish it was, knocked one up at work today, here's what you need:

A screw of equal size to that of the tripod mount on you camera
Some string or wire (of equal length to your height)
A big washer

Basically you tie the wire to the screw, screw into camera and then put the wire under your foot and pull it til you are at a comfortable shooting height, attach the washer at the other end so you have something hefty to tread on and there you go.

Just screw, then stamp, then pull and you are much more stable (well in the vertical at least).

See pics for my version:

Very nice idea - and very portable - they should call it the iString or iWire or something :D

This would definitely help stabilize the camera. I think I'll make one to carry in my backpack on those long wilderness trips I take so I can save the weight of a tripod. I might make several loops though so that I can crouch and still have the stabilization work.

For those using tripods, most tripods have a hook under the head. Hanging any heavy object the like your camera bag with extra lenses will help reduce vibrations coming through the tripod.

Nice idea, I have an idea I've seen a commercial version at some pont in the past...

You could also use some of those exercise resistance bands....

Then you could get some healthy exercise at the same time and end up looking like this guy.....
