We're experiencing the most fabulous autumn since we can remember. It's warm, and the weather is sunny and clear. After a long period (of about a year) of renovating our new (to us) house, we finally found the time to take some time to enjoy the world around us. So, we drove to Doorwerth, only about 15 mins from our house, to make a short hike in the beech woods near the castle. You can't imagine that this tranquil landscape suffered severely in the autumn of 1944: it was the battle ground of Operation Market Garden. In the last photo, there is a glimpse of Arnheim in the Rhine Valley. It's here where the allied forces were blocked by the Germans, leaving Europe in another half year of war.
But nothing of that this afternoon. We felt blessed and happy!
