beautiful !! makes my set up look like a toy

Yep, that's the one Pete, made out of specially aged wood ... New wood would colour the sound, make it sound wet, where as dry wood has a less wet sound ... A dry sound if you will ... The flaking paint is to reduce the possibility of standing waves ... It's all very technical!

Too true. And all these fools who go out and invest in cast aluminium and glass! Heathens and non-believers the lot of them.

Actually in a couple of weeks I hope to finalise the design of a new hi-fi cabinet with a cabinet maker (in fact 2). One for the CD etc and amplification and the other for the turntable, phonostage etc and tuner. I really don't like these modern glass and metal jobs and they certainly don't in with the rest of the room. I've done a fair bit of experimenting and I think I have come up with a combination of materials that give what I was looking for.

We went down the cabinet maker route ... A mate of mine is one, it started looking very pricey!
In the nick of time i found a tv table at ikea for £40 ... I'll post some pix tomorrow ... It's actually perfect for my requirements!

Not seeing where the CDs go Hamish?

That does seem like a bargain Hamish, nice one. It's always nice when you buy something and your dead chuffed with it. Also glad you are getting some love from the preamp, it doesn't look pretty but at least it sounds good.
