Hello From Gerry Connolly : Does any have a Sekonic Exposure Profile Target 2

Hi All,
I have been after a Sekonic 758DR for quite a while and I just bought one quite cheap on that well know web site (Flea_Bay). I am amazed at the price of the Sekonic Exposure Profile Target 2, i guess it is a fair (?) price becasue it goes with the cost of the corresponding professional meter (price of target on Amazon is £125) However, i wonder if anyone would lens me such a profile. I would be happy to pay the postage both way recorded so that i can calibrate my 5DMk2? By the way, I have been on Flea-bay for over 10 years with 100% fb, and if you email me I can provide a contact number. I am also a member of the IDCC for many years.
Best wishes to all for 2012. Here's hoping.
Gerry

Hi Gerry, welcome to the forum!
tell us a bit more about your self
photos, kit etc ...
I'm not sure i know of anyone here with that meter, but you might be lucky!

Maybe you could buy one and sell it on??

Welcome Gerry. I hope you enjoy RPF and I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work. As I'm sure you know, the profile target and software is by no means essential to using the meter and, except unless highly critical conditions, I doubt you'd notice much difference. Have you bought it as a general lightmeter or do you have a special prurpose?

About Me GERRY C

I have found the cheapest sit so far to be 1st Cameras,
After moe reading today it seems that the software is rather extensive and will calibrate both my camera and the meters so perhaps i should invest in one. As you say i could sell it after profiling.

I entered Digital about 3 years ago after retiring, started with Panasonic bridge camera but I am so used to SLR (and 120 and LF film) that i decided to get a Canon 5Dmk2, less frustrating. I got rid of my 5x4 and 10x8 enlargers due to illness: spent too much time in DR for one image.

Now, I mainly photograph "reportage" style but am slowly entering to the world of portraiture, e.g, pre-Raphaelite style images. I am also documenting some sculptures of Henry Moore over a year, throughout the seasons. However, at my Photog is on hold at present due to Kidney Transplant operation (only 4 weeks a go) but hope to be in shoots a lot by Feb/March.

My equipment consistent of Canon 5DMk2 & 1Ds3 and some non-L-series lens, Lastolite lights (e.g. highlight 7 x8 ft) and backdrops (small and large), two more other lights. I attempt to use PS and LR3. Still a lot to learn in digital. Sometimes I don't take picture for a few days, I just look at equipment: MUST get taking more images, the only way to learn really. I nearly always carry my 5DMK2 with me wherever I go, just in case I see a nice snap.

I migh post afew images one day but i am rarely happy with them :(

By the way I collect Coronet Cameras, not to use but to admire!
Best wishes to all.

Gerry

Hi Pete,
I wanted a spot-meter and incident meter in one, for use for Landscape images and also for studio portraits.
One meter to master seems a good idea, I will sell my old digital spot-meter used with my 10 x8 fairly soon.
Yes, I realise there is a lot of hype but i still think it could be good to profile the camera (and meter). I think of it just like we did with film all those years ago. I will continue to think and read on the profiler. I also use a X-rite colour checker and that is a great help. Perhaps I can calibrate with that but i do not want to spend 2/3 weeks checking things. Also The cost of the meter was really very good, and i am happy it so far. I will check it out versus my spot. However, it is also worth noting that old meter do change with time. i also am getting long in the tooth and the fact that It can work out % flash and ratios quickly appeals to me. I also see issue with which colour space to use and file format for testing, but i think these can be resolved and Sekonic should help if asked. What meter(S) do you use with what type of photography?
Best wishes for 2012
Gerry

Hi Gerry, Good luck with the operation. But don't be shy about posting here. It's a friendly place and I find the feedback really valuable and a great aid to the thought process. And there is a lot of expertise with PS and Lr here as well. I'm sure you would find huge value in sharing some images and I'm really interested in your Pre-Raphaelite portraiture concept and would love to see some examples.

We use the calibration target for some of our technical imaging and I really don't think you will see much benefit in using it for most of your photographic activities.

Hi Pete,
Wo thats a rapid reply, just taken in a deep breath.
Yes perhaps you are right.
I guess i should try some test shots and my old meters and see how they compare.
One thing i noted on your replies was the JPEG image shown on back of camera and ETR.
I was thinking with a calibrated meter it would tell me more easily how much latitude i have
BUT i guess i could spend time testing my camera with X-rite cared and different f-stops with fixed daylight bulb to illuminate it.

My Pre-Raphaelite work is just starting: found my model, did test shoot (15 mins test shoot: she seem very nice) so no to think about lighting and general set-up/clothes etc. Should be great fun, but do not expect to start getting good images for a few months. I will see the model only once a week so, it will take time, but that is good as i have a lot to think about. I like JM Cameron's images etc.

Sounds good Gerry. I am quite a fan of the Pre-Raphaelites and one of my all-time favourite paintings is The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse and I recently bought some prints off of Ed Org who has a similar aesthetic (although he draws the 'faerie' realm). I am sort of in the process of an 'alternative' lighting project too. I started a series of enigmatic portraits and had in mind a more 'Rembrant' feel to the lighting and post processing. I must post a few more but you'll get the idea from these (although them main series are enigmatic in subject more that just lighting - I have an interest in sort of stills from films that were never made if you see what I mean).

Welcome to the forum Gerry! :)

Some interesting photographic projects in your intro - would love to see some shots.

There's an incredibly diverse group here on RPF, and there's always something to review and tips to learn.

The best bunch of photographers on the web!

Also plenty of vintage camera nuts on here - and a whole bunch of folks still shoot with them and love film.

You're in great company! :D

Hi Gerry,...and welcome. YOU might rarely be happy with your pics but WE might LOVE 'EM! Post 'em up Gerry! Naebody's hypercritical on RPF. We aw just like foties.

Good luck with the op Gerry!
I used to worry much more about my pictures until I started posting them here...
Lots of good comments from people!

Coronet camera eh?
I was looking at a 44mkii the other day ...
An interesting choice of brand to collect, are they not pretty much all budget plastic cameras ... I can actually see the attraction to some of them, but i do prefer my voigtlanders! :)
