New VA Hospital - Las Vegas

Out in LV doing a project, at the new VA hospital, being completed north of the main LV strip.

Amazing looking building - really something to see.

Took a quick iPhone snap on the way out, after the sun had set.

16:9 Crop and Topaz Filters

I really like the super smooth look to this, I guess its a combo of iPhone and filters, but it looks nice!
Project? Photography project?

Hamish - smoothness is all down to a smooth filter in Topaz - the original image was noisy as the iPhone doesn't cope that well in near darkness - the smooth filter fixed that, and I liked the slab like look it gave in this case - suited the structure.

Project is a work project I'm afraid - IPICS demo to the VA Hospitals Police Chiefs today, and we were setting it up yesterday evening to be ready. IPICS is a clever Cisco gizomo that allows Plod, Fire, Sheriff, phone users, cellphones etc to talk to each other, even though they use different radios and different RF bands - very useful piece of kit.

Brian - not yet, but they have them everywhere else! :D

IPICS is what San Diego already uses, if I'm not mistaken, right? Nice opportunity. I'm impressed by what you were able to do with the Topaz filters. I'll have to give that a try. I'd love to go shoot that building with the 5DII.

Thanks Darren - Not sure if SD has IPICS - will have to check.

The LV VA hospital is just stunning - quite the architectural treat

We do have a system that allows the various first responders and emergency services to communicate amongst themselves, even with otherwise incompatible radios. I don't know if there are others out there, though.

There's a Raytheon box that does some of the same functionality - could be that.

I'll be talking to SD VA, so I'll ask :)
