Open Water Swimming

Each and every year there has been for as long as I remember an annual open water swim from behind the Newlyn Art gallery to the open air Penzance Lido slip in Penzance. It is a short swim for many of the swimmer approximately 1500m.
This length of swim suits the triathletes more than open water distance swimmers who will often swim distances of 5k to 25k.
This charity event although for a few, is a very competitive event, it is also a fun event for the whole family.
A few snaps from the day.Quickly processed from raw and re-sized. No sharpening or noise reduction.
Hope they give a feel of the event as it finished.

Rob they love it. Lots of testosterone around from the male contingent. . This is a fun swim in a worthy cause. Many fine women and men who at the end have a Cornish pasty and quite a lot of local ale.One of those eagerly awaited annual events, that brings out the bravado, hope, joy, disappointment and togetherness that these kind of challenges have within them. Around the country folk roll down fields, toss cabers run over the fells, Cornwall has the sea and that is where most of their challenges take place, be it in the water or on top.

Super series Julian. As has been said, some great expressions and they all look suitably 'braced'! There's even a Michael Stipe look-a-like and I like the monochrome one: somehow much softer. Great set.

Dave , not this time on this swim. I do have many pictures of swimmers swimming, mainly the pool swimming though. It is one of the reasons I got into telephoto lenses as my daughter swims and instead of paying big prices for stock photos I had some idea I would do my own. Turns out it would have been far cheaper to have purchased the stock photo's. But hey, more fun this way. Pete I spent a short while last night looking at a few that I have been switching into monochrome and sepia and it may be working. I'll carry on and see what comes of it. Thanks Brian .

Chris I was close, I mean many images were unusable because I was to close to focus.I was getting knocked about a lot but that is ok as I was squashed against a rail and couldn't go anywhere. I do know many of the swimmers and parents of the swimmers. My daughter is a pool swimmer and has trained with many of these triathletes. She herself does one or two of these events in the summer months out of pool competition time, which is why we were there. Their were one or two photographers, the papers and the such, so no one takes much notice. When I went looking for the results a couple of days later, I noticed that one of the organizers must have Google searched, found them, then put a link from their site to here.

Great set Julian. What I like about them is if you cropped tight on the faces so they became out of context they would still make a great set of images with all the various expressions and the ruggedness that they have.
