Hi everyone, just popped in to share a photo I took tonight.

If you're new here - welcome! I've not been around much lately.

I'm fairly pleased with it, but how could I improve it?

I love the comp here and especially how those smaller branches near the top of the frame are popping out in a lighter color. Very nice indeed, Tim.

Bloody marvellous Tim!
Very dreamy/fantasia like. Actually, you've just put me through the 'wardrobe'...... I'm wondering if im going to meet the lion or the witch?! :)
In my opinion, I don't think it needs anything other than about -10% clarity to really pop the cherry of the cake with the dream feel... What do you think Tim?
Good to see you back.

OK Dan, try this.

I've not experimented much with the Clarity slider in LR before. I found -10 had very little effect. Here is the photo with Clarity set to -50. I can see what you mean about a dreamy effect.

When I was doing PP on this photo I was if anything trying to get good contrast to ensure the different textures showed up.

I'd be interested in view on which version looks best - but of course it depends what effect is being looked for - this is to maximise Dan's Narnia fetish :)

SPOT ON!!!! Absolutely PUCKA Mucka!!
I really really like this shot (can you tell?)

It's a lovely tool that clarity slider isn't it? I use it a fair bit.

Nice one Tim! I've just walked into Narnia :)

Tim that 2nd version is just surreal - what a come-back! :D

We've missed you

Thanks both...

I've been busy moving house and other stuff, barely got the camera out in the second half of the year. Now we are having work done on the house so it's still manic.

This shot was taken out of our (temporary) bedroom window, by the way.

Great image from what could at first sight have been passed by. The clarity slider pushed back can work wonders on occasions , as you have done.
Hi from Cornwall where we have had no snow just rain.

Tim - I feel your pain - we just moved in Nov and it pretty much stopped me shooting anything

Moving just causes so much disruption, and takes up all your 'spare' time :(

Temporary view looks interesting though - I'm imagining the permanent view must be marvelous!

Lovely shot and nice processing. The only thing that I would change is trying to get rid of that door - window on the left. May be shooting from another angle. It's a beautiful capture. Nice light!

Tim, Dorridge and knowle are lovely places to live in the midlands. I've done copious amount of work around Dorridge and maintained the the sewer line on the road you live on, on the Severn Trent contract. You must have a pretty penny to be living around there I say, not compared to the lot on bakers lane though :/

About 8 years ago we attended the house that opposite the railway tunnel (bakers lane) because an STW asset foul sewer blocked and FLOODED this chaps house, garden, green house and driveway with sewerage.
Me and my colleague felt absolutely helpless as we watched some of his belongings washing away down his back garden like a river. This was one of the worse case scenarios I've ever seen in my years in drainage. Me and my colleague managed to get the system cleared resulting in the longest clean up and disinfecting processes the company had undertaken.
Weeks this took, bloody weeks!
After this dreadful event, STW had spent hundreds of thousands of pounds in a maintenance programme for a routine cleanse in and around that area for the sewer lines to be surveyed and cleaned, hence knowing the area very well!

I just recognised the road sign in your shot!! (But you don't actually live on that road..........) :D:D
I promise I'm not a creep..... I just like walking around in the dark with a gas mask on flinging torches around and setting myself on fire!..... Oooohh, haven't done that in a while :D:D:D

Thanks Peri - and welcome to the forum!

I will be able to try another angle when our new bedroom is finished... but of course the accidental and fortuitous thing here is that there is a street light behind the tree, casting a tungsten orange light which of course I've changed to white using White Balance. If I change the angle the lamppost may come into view. (That would however please Dan "Narnia" Cattermole!)

Also I'll be considerably nearer so would need a wider angle lens than the 50mm f1.4 I used here.

We shall see in a few weeks' time - but by then there'll be no snow of course - hopefully!

Yes Dan, Knowle and Dorridge are lovely. The centre of Dorridge is now desolate and boarded up though, as Sainsburys are going to replace the old arcade with a new store. Sounds like a bad thing but we were in favour on balance as something needed doing and a no would have meant a long delay. Yes Bakers Lane is the place for the really big houses!

Horrendous story about the sewerage...

Used to be a thriving little place, but no more as many say.
I haven't been there for a few years now. Change is good through. Lets hope it works out well.

Ha! Bakers Lane is the BIG BOYS crib! Lol
