It does!

After revisiting this photos several days in a row, I keep on wondering about the black rail, which appears more OOF than the far background. That is a weird effect, alienating, if you want to give it a word. Probably because there is no detail in it? I don't know, but I think it is a fascinating photo....

Cheers, Rense. My intention was that the lack of detail in the black rail draws the eye to the spots on the edge of the step, which are there deliberately to draw your eye to edge of the step, so you don't fall, injure yourself, and sue the museum for tens of thousands! It also lessens the chance of the abstract shapes looking flat.
