The Black Hole: Janire Najera

Spotted a reference to this photographers work on CNN, so took a look at her website.

Brilliant - it's time travel back to the 40s/50s/60s - right up my street

Janire recorded a series of B&W images in the now defunct Black Hole salvage yard - from the final liquidation sale in 2012.

This is the left-over stuff from the recent past - but what makes it extra cool is that it's from the US Government's nuclear research facilities at Los Alamos NM.

"Time seemed to freeze once you crossed the threshold of The Black Hole, a unique military surplus store and recycler of ‘nuclear’ waste located in Northern New Mexico. Nestled in the dramatic landscape of the Jemez Mountains, the small town of Los Alamos feels like the perfect encapsulation of Middle America. And yet, behind the manicured lawns and picket fences, hidden in the canyons and mesas of this ancient Indian tribal land are the operational buildings and testing sites of The Los Alamos National Laboratory."

The mundane and the bizarre - it's a great collection of images - well worth a browse

Great stuff...nice catch Chris.
My Dad worked at Los Alamos for many years...my younger sisters grew up there. It is an interesting place for many reasons. The highest concentration of PhD's in the world is just one.

What a wonderful find Chris. Her other work is stunning also.
interesting combination of places to live as well - Wales, NM and Spain
