the foreground was easier to flip than the sky because of the reflection on the water..

Beth...I'm no cubist...but I like the second one much better...because it's not a "normal" seascape photo. Maybe it's my basic contrarian ways.

I lke the crop version with the sand ripples. The uncropped image suffers, I think, by having the curve in the shoreline go out of the frame then come back in. For me that's a distraction. My eyes keep going there instead of staying with the more interesting features. I definitely liked the first version you posted and I really like the close focus on the wet sand, ripples, etc.
