Upside down boat

It does doesn't it ... Do you think it should be flipped horizontally?

No, I think it works well this way. Because one often reads images left to right I think this way rounds adds to the slightly unreal feel to the image. And your eye stays with the main boat rather than flowing towards the horizon for some reason. Maybe it is because the shapes looks a bit like a face without the writing. Also the eye doesn't flow up towards the horizon but down into darker tones.

Excellent Hamish - I reckon you could have posted this from the get go, and only Pete (With Eagle Eyes) would have noticed the inversion

It still confuses me. on flickr at first sighting it looked great but did not know what it was. Upside down boat throws me as it appears on its side? Never the less it works and is a cracking photo. Of what, it is does not seem to matter much, if at all.

The flaming pear flood effect?

cheers both!

if you are in a position to look at it upside down Julian, it just snaps into reality... I've done it on my iPhone a couple of times this morning. Else the original is a few images back on Flickr and on here somewhere

its making me wonder what else I can turn upside down now :)

Mad and brilliant. I had been seeing something completely different. my own interpritation was not of a row/ line of moored boats, but one boat with different deck levels on its side? Its for me like one of those , is it out or or in images an illusion.
Now my itouch thingy has packed up as all my apple products do. My computer screen cannot swivel into portrait mode which would be nice. If so I may have seen what I see now earlier.
I have a spine that cannot move at all. Not a millimeter from base to head. Shot to pieces. So cannot even put my head to one side, to view from a different angle.
Thanks for pointing me to the original Hamish it has been quite a revelation , cheering me up for the morning I have had, which was to put a red pair of trousers in with my nice shirts which are now pinky yuk colour. I might add they are not my red trousers. I still love my daughter dearly though.

I thought that must be how you were seeing it ... that pleases me no end!!

Sorry to hear about the shirts, and your spine for that matter... but I do think Petes suggestion is a good one! :)
