I presume the link is OK. It describes what was happening far better than me. In my case the first option sorted the chequerboard

Yes - now I'm back to normal with the repeated saves and opening and closing CS5. The filters drop off after cropping or using a PSB layer, but I can get them back again like I used to. I don't know what went wrong last week...
