Hannah and Connie - first shot with the GS645s

My bottle of DDX is very low... It's not cheap and even less cheap when you take in to account the dilution... But it does seem to me to be very very good with grain even in these circumstances... I'm sure you will feel the same!
And as we spoke about the other day FP4/ilfosol is lovely!
Looking forward to seeing some more pix matey!

I do have some HP5 negs to scan and another roll in the camera that is almost finished. I think I will give the DDX a go on that. Then its the FP4! I find that I take ages to finish a roll as I am much more selective about what I photograph. I don't know if that's actually a good or bad thing yet.

That's one reason I find my self prefering 120
Less shots means I get to see them quicker ... I also find with 35mm if I have 36 photos I find my self less interested in all of them ... If I have only 12 (for eg) to look at I can concentrate on them individually better and the times that I took them are closer together and closer to the time that I am viewing them so they are more interesting somehow
Not to mention the fact that with film in general I am more, as you say selective about what I shoot
This has been my whole issue with digital recently, I'll take a load of shots, forget to put them on the computer, take a loa more on a load of different occasions and all of a sudden I have a 100 photos that all have less value!
Basically I think I'm slowly working toward LF photography ;)

The odd thing with the this Fuji, is I find my self a little more snap happy than with the blad ... It sorta bridges a gap between 35mm and the blad ... I quite like it for that ...
The quality of mf with a closer shooting style to 35mm without all the photos

Too true Hamish. I find I react to the Mamiya 7 in the same way.

I will be back in Prague in a couple of weeks. And I'm going to take it (and a stack of film) with me rather than a D3. I'll also have the M9 and I might chuck the MP in too as I'm going by train from Berlin.

Last year, when I first got the bug to develop my own film, I read up a little on the various developers. Having a strong Luddite streak in me I liked best the notion of using Rodinal because the formula was so old. And I also love history and auld foties so it all came together for me with Rodinal as a starting point. So I picked up a small bottle of R09 One-Shot made by "Connect Chemicals Production" in Germany. It's the Rodinal formula. It cost me about $6 dollars for a 125ml bottle.

The recommended dilutions listed on the bottle are 1:25 and 1:50. I developed my first roll of film--Arista Premium 400 (re-branded Tri-X actually) at 1:25 and I liked the results, which were contrasty and a little grainy. Subsequently I also tried 1:50 dilutions and 1:100. I'm doing more and more at 1:100 now, because I like the results I get with "stand" or "semi-stand" developing.

The point here though, is that at 1:100 that wee $6, 125ml bottle of R09 One-Shot lasts me a long time! And so, not only do I like Rodinal,...it is very economical. (At 1:100 I'm using about a quarter oz. per roll of 120 or per two rolls of 35mm. And I'm actually mixing up a little more developer than I need at that dilution because the math is easy to do.)

I guess you can file the above testimony under For What Its Worth.

I think on shot #4 you nailed it Hamish - lovely tones without any of the skin being blown out.

Good dust removal too! :D

She's certainly grown - just wait until you have to chase her around to get your shots - you'll be looking for AF again at that point! :)

You know Pete I still wonder if a mamiya 6 might be te right camera for me ... Combining the square format and interchangeable lens of the blad with more of the size and function of the Fuji!
If I invest in another MF camera, I fear (for my wallet) that might be the way I go!
I'm gonna do a bit of a running review of the Fuji I think as there is not an aweful lot online about it, it might be interesting to get your thoughts on the mamiya rf if you can find the time?

Brian, I must get me some of this rodinal stuff ... Just confirm or me what it is exactly that I'm looking for? RO9 one shot?
I like the idea of this stand development ... Especially of it means (if I have followed what you have said in the past) that I can cp a good veriety of films in it??

Cheers Chris, yea, I put a lot of effort into my dust removal this time ... Trying to engrain the idea that it is the right thing to do :)
Yes, I can see AF being useful ... Been thinking about getting a Nikon V1 for Hannah/me ... The AF is seemingly mega quick ... Any excuse ;)

Nice one Brian, now I know what im looking for ....
I've just this week ordered and received some stuff from these people
RO9 Rodinal 500ml
Who also have it... All be it slightly more expensive, but with seemingly cheaper delivery charges!

Just remind me ... What types of film have you CPed in this stuff ... I found a roll of e4 in a camera the other day, you think that would work in it .......?

I'll see what I can come up with regards the Mamiya 7 once I'm back from Prague. I originally wanted a Mamiya 6 but couldn't find a decent one at the time so ended up going for a 7. I often print the negatives square anyway and often have that in mind when I'm shooting (eg http://www.realphotographersforum.com/abstract-still-life/2412-upon-plinth.html). I still have a look every now and then but still haven't seen a really good one.

I did E6 once and I have done C41 a couple of times, Hamish. All of the rest have been traditional BW films. Tri-X, Plus-X, Ilford FP4, Delta 100, Fuji Acros, Neopan etc., Fomapan, Adox and so on. I don't know about E4. Slide film I presume? Try searching Flickr for people who have developed various films in Rodinal. There's a lot of info there.

Kwm55 had one on eBay, body only the othe day for around £550 ... Was tempted!
Do mamiya 7 lenses fit on mamiya 6 cameras? Vise versa?
I suppose, like the Fuji these things are getting old now... ...

Bit of suck it and see I guess Brian, I don't suppose I would find any other way of deving it ... Pretty certain e4 is slide, but this coming from the bloke who not so long ago was getting black & white dev mixed up with e6, so I don't suppose I'm that reliable? ;)

Probably down to subject. The 7 is nice and light and easy to carry. I like the 65mm lens a lot and use it as my standard. Having said that the 75mm on 6x6 would be great. The 6 is probably slightly better built I suspect (there's nothing wrong with the 7 except for the crappy plastic key for the blind used when changing lenses). Many people reckon the meter in the 6 is easier to use than the 7 but I've not had a problem - but then I'm used to the bizarre way that Leica's meter!
