Help Needed - Underwater Photography

My daughter, Rhona, wants to do so some underwater photography for part of her A-Level Art portfolio. She has a Canon 1100D camera. Can she make it waterproof, or should she get a specialist camera? She'll be using it in a swimming pool with models (friends) in dresses...

I have to admit I have never had any personal experience using these but I know this kind of bag are quite popular.
Don't know if any fellow members have had any personal knowledge of these?

I can lend you my Fuji XP that I took around with me on Tough Guy?! Lol

There are various DIY options on YouTube and I also found a preview of the DiCAPac units. These look a bit more robust and, more importantly easier to control the camera with.

I suspect the big problem she will have is how to light the models. Maybe some cheap flashguns from eBay in cheap UW bags connected to photocells and fired by the on-camera flash (if it doesn't cause flare in the bag.

Actually that looks like it would even work. Use the flash on the camera in a fill-flash mode and have two cheap S/H manual flash guns on cells in a bag each position around the models.

The slr in a bag will be better quality

A water proof compact camera is also a compact camera ... A waterproof bag has limited use ...

Those would be my opposing thoughts

Rob i use one of these when I go scuba diving .they are good for 40 m depth

We want to see the results though Rob - sounds very interesting :)

There's an idea, but all that mud will leak out in the pool...

Love your new avatar!

No mud on it no more, as clean as a whistle...... Or, as a camera should be anyway.

Thanks, my avatar photo was part of my light mummy saga phase I went through Light play - a set on Flickr

Maybe, it might just might frequently remind me to pull my finger out and start being creative again.

What about a Tupperware and an infrared remote control? You could even put the Tupperware inside a larger one again if you don't feel confident with the seal?

Oh wait, scrap that, you're all talking film aren't you? Doh.
