Whats your feeling on the Nikon D 60?
And being I know nothing of photography Id like to get her started on this forum.
Her name is Nosheen so she my be posting pictures here to learn more.

Jeff - she's a lucky woman :)

She'll be welcome - love to see people breaking out with a new camera/hobby

I'll let the Nikon specialists comment specifically on the D60

The d60 is a great camera!
should provide little limitation to someone just starting out ... in fact it should provide little limitation to her for a long time!
very easy to use, all the day to day shooting mode are changed using the the little "i" button and the direction pad to the right of the screen!
it also has built in help and tips accessible by pressing the "?" button.

possibly in competition to sonys built in "steady shot", by the time the d60 was released nikon had introduced the 18-55 vr (vibration reduction) kit lens ... so if it is how it came originally it should have one of those with it ... which to be fair is a pretty respectable kit lens!

10mega pixel sensor ... which is plenty enough res for most people!
great build quality!

it was the successor to the d40x, which was the 10mp version of the 6mp d40 ... which is a superb bit of kit! ...
the only downside to these compact nikon dslrs is that they only work with more modern af lenses that have the af motor in the lens ... not really an issue, but can be a little confusing if you are looking at buying second hand af lenses ... not so much a problem these days as and new af lens for a nikon has the built in motor, but it did make things a bit confusing for people at the time of release ...
if you need any advice on lenses im always happy to help and advise :)

best of luck to Nosheen with her new camera ... she should join up properly and post some pictures!

I'll take some pictures, and post them.I put some limited ones up on AOS.
I had this site bookmarked on my old browser and in trying several different browsers I lost it,so yesterday I found it on AOS.

We had to drive over Donner summit in a blizzard,to get it the picture of the car was taken when we stopped at the meeting place half way.Northern California can get wicked snow, they closed the pass for 3 hours comming home. The next day they repoted tons of wrecks and said there was zero visability. There where times I could not see a meter passed the hood.
We had snow chains but where still slideing at speeds of 20 to 25 mph!
The wiper blades froze, covered in ice I had to chip them out with a scraper even with the defroster running full blast!
We pulled under a huge awning at a rec center to wait for them, they where so nice and gave us the recipts for the cameras whole cleanning and maintanance, she upgraded to a much better Nikon and bought all new stuff. The D60 we got has been all over the world, they vacation alot.

I just got back from the camera shop with a better flash D 400 and a tripod + a upgrade eye piece and a screen protector.I even got her a really cool battery holder for the AA batterys for the new flash.100_3602.jpg100_3601.jpg100_3603.jpg100_3602.jpg100_3601.jpg100_3603.jpg

I tried to edit out the dubble pics but made it worse.

It's night and day Hamish,
Pete ,under exposed, so more light?
I was using the bounce /flash pointed at the ceiling.

It seems you got a decent amount of kit all thrown in with the camera. The pics aren't bad at all and as Pete says just need the exposure notched up a little. Have you downloaded the latest versions of Nikon's Camera Transfer and View NX2 from the website? They're pretty good and free!

I just took the wife to the camera store and got her a new zoom lens a Nikor 55 to 300 and a much larger camera bag as we have out grown the small nikon bag.

Nice! - She should be set to go by the sound of it :)

How's the new Nikon going down then?
