Cheap as Chips Challenge! RPF Photo Competition

Nice buy on the Yashica, Kev. As for the film,...you can shoot with it but you can't get it developed. Nobody develops Kodachrome any more. (Not since Jan/Feb of this year. Dec. 31 of last year was actually the last date that the only remaining processor of Kodachrome on the planet Earth was accepting any film for processing.)

Of course, you could shoot with it and then see if someone will develop it in B&W chems. I've heard of that done. Or dev it yourself if you have the equipment.

we will be shooting with a very similar lens then

well my first purchase of the canon 650 with a 35-70mm lens that didn't work so i sent the lens back to seller & he reimbursed me £5 half the cost of the camera i said i will keep the cam at least i can use it with my EF lens which for this competition is not allowed :p lol

so

i hope your right Hamish.................i wont have a clue what to do............lol

wow Kev, how posh does that look.............!!

:) Not quite a posh as Hamish's Minister D but sam lens and I feel this could be the start of another affair :D

I'm jealous of all these nice cameras people are getting for a tenner! I've been outbid on several. Nevertheless, if I possibly can, I'm going to try to find something different than what I normally shoot, thus keeping in the spirit of the competition--which I think is to shoot something different. Not sure what that'll be for under a tenner.

J for Jazzy I reckon! ;)
Light meter is fecked in my minister ... So could be happier with it...
I'm going to take the bottom off see if I can find a loose wire if I can find some time!
Else it is a lovely camera, I've got an idea I might see if I can hunt down a minister 700 with a 1.7 lens, I have a feeling that would be a gem!

Ok batteries here. ordered from a company called Small Battery Company on Wednesday evening and here this morning :)

Film here. picked up a roll of ilford fp4 125 :)

Camera purchased on EBay but still waiting :( oh its a Praktika MTL 3 hope it works ok lol

Total spend was £4 for camera £4.15 for film ( i bought a 2nd tho as new to film so not confident 1st one will be any good lol )

Thought this might amuse people, my film finally arrived after a reasonable wait, got some Jessops PAN 100s B/W 36exp at £1.50 each and some Kodak Color Plus 200 24exp at £0.27. Happy with the price I paid and I fully expected that when the film arrived it would have expired. I was right and I have no problem shooting with it as it'll probably be ok.
But what really made me laugh was the lengths the seller went to to hide the fact the film had expired. I have attached a shot of the film, but basically they scratched the date off every film and then covered each bottom of the box with silver gaffer tape.
A little OTT if you ask me, for it is painfully obvious that the film has expired. Made me chuckle. (BTW sill managed to read the date of the black and white film as 2009, not bad at all).

Well,...so far, of my 4 attempts to purchase a competition camera only one has panned out. Unfortunately its a camera I already own 3 of and am therefore quite familiar with: A Brownie Hawkeye Flash. $6.95 off E-bay.

Still bidding on two other cameras of different (and unfamiliar to me) varieties, so I may shoot something different yet.

im struggling too ... Im so keen to get a fully functioning camera that im missing good deals on models with even such minor issues as a dodgy CdS

a dodgy CdS

You don't need a meter, Hamish. (Most of my cameras have no meter or no functional meter. I just estimate exposures for the most part,...and the Sunny 16 Rule is pretty accurate for print film.)

I know ... Im more than happy wondering round working from S16 ...
Its just the bargain hunter in me that wants to find a "perfect" camera
Problem is, this is making me buy other cameras that dont fit ... I picked up a Yashica Electro 35 gsm over the weekend of £25 ... thats not less than a £10 but i found it looking for a camera for less than £10 ...
Madness ...
still, its a lot of fun!
