Cheap as Chips Challenge! RPF Photo Competition

If I remember rightly full manual was not available on the om10(Which at the time was why I got a ricoh xrx which in the end led me to getting my f3) it was program app priority or shutter priority only or program and I wanted the full manual control although not long after oly seemed to have learned there mistake and put the manual adaptor in the kits they sold with lenses I must admit that is now over 25 years ago lol when I went to change the ricoh Nikon had just come out with the f4 which led to a lot of press cameras moving across to auto focus which was available with the f4 so f3 and manual lenses for nikon were flooding the market and the pentax fit lenses were worth more than the equivilant Nikon fit so I swapped all my kit across to nikon

I bid on an XA2 the other day but it quickly accelerated beyond the tenner limit. I have 4 bids on other cameras at the moment; I'm confident one at least will come through. None of 'em's an Oly, though.

Just found an 'advanced feature' on my Canonet - exposure lock!

If you press the shutter half way, the analogue meter on the RHS of the viewfinder locks it's exposure (shutter speed) - allowing you to effectively meter off the subject, and then recompose to take the final shot!

Found out completely by accident whilst pi$$ing about with the camera - way cool! :D

I don't sell cameras, I rehome them (for money) ...
I'm def edgin towar the yashica magister ..
Picked it up for £5 from a carboot (via a mate) bought it off him the other day, but have been a little bit hesitant to commit to it as the light meter is fecked ... Dunno why, I won't use the meter anyway... Just wanted somthing perfect ...
But reading on tweb and looking at photos I get the impression ita a lovely camera!

Keep hunting or commit to it ... I can't decide!!

ok whats the story with film i dinna have a clue lol. B&W seems to be the way to go as there retro cameras :D

Looks like Ilford are the front runners but seems be a few types...............confused.com lol

Alan, for the sake of simplicity, go for a colour process B&W film ...
Ilford make one called 'XP2' that will do you fine!

there is no harm in shooting colour with vintage cameras, it often leads to a vintage "feel" to the image ...

But then there is no need to go for a vintage camera as such...

Oh drat! Just got outbid on my camera of choice for the comp: A pre-war Wirgin Edinex. (The seller thinks the shutter manufacturer--FDeckel--is the camera manufacturer.)

Oh well,...1 down 3 to go.

The om10 is only auto or B without the adapter

Update on the Canonet, dismantled the camera last night and managed to clean the lens and aperture blades so it seems I have a functional camera now for the challenge (well the light meter has died of old age and as such can't use the auto setting for aperture). Quite chuffed really.

Just waiting for my film to arrive, 10 rolls for £2.70, can't beat that value really. Grand total for the challenge £7.70. Not bad cost-wise, will have to see what the results turn out like to see the true worth of it all.

Well it may not be the top of the range but for 4.99 the Yashica J Range finder with 45mm f2.8 I just won should tick at least some of the boxes, if it works that is, now for film, even though I have been given a handfull of rolls of kodachrome 200, I'm thinking B&W. :)

I have been given a handfull of rolls of kodachrome 200
Nice buy on the Yashica, Kev. As for the film,...you can shoot with it but you can't get it developed. Nobody develops Kodachrome any more. (Not since Jan/Feb of this year. Dec. 31 of last year was actually the last date that the only remaining processor of Kodachrome on the planet Earth was accepting any film for processing.)

Of course, you could shoot with it and then see if someone will develop it in B&W chems. I've heard of that done. Or dev it yourself if you have the equipment.

I had considered CP the colourfilm in B&W just as an experiment, nothing lost in trying really.....my oly is loaded with it too at the moment so might just shoot it off and have a play.........cheers for the info Brian

I am A NUMPTY...............just checked my fridge, the contents are Kodacolour C41 so thats ok..........still may CP it though Just for the crack. :)

That was very interesting, Pete. I followed one of the links to some Kodachrome photos from the WWII era and the 50s. Great stuff.
