Cheap as Chips Challenge! RPF Photo Competition

Hamish's call, Darren.

(But, for what it's worth, personally I wouldn't have an issue with you using a functional lens, as opposed to a broken one that came with the camera.)

Didn't the seller guarantee it?

Not really Darren, there are loads of nikons I could buy that I could fit some very expensive lenses too ... It kinda defeats the point of the challenge ...
Sorry about that! :/

I got issues guys and i need advice.

The 35-70mm lens that came with my canon eos 650 film cam wont Autofocus or even manually focus very well its feels very gritty and stiff and i cant seem to get the view finder sharp / in focus at all, however i try so i guess images will be outta foucs / blurry it is also quite loose when attached to cam.

Daz

Daz - that sounds like it's been dropped at some point :(

How does the viewfinder look with a known good EF lens?

seller said it was good working order prior to he packed it up & must have been damaged in post or dropped as Chris mentioned, i thought it was to good to be true for £10

back to ebay it is then....................!!

chris it kinda looks outta focus and nothing changes that. If i stick at EF lens on it crystal clear & as expected.

Daz

Sounds like the focus barrel is snafu at the very least - usually due to face planting from a height onto a hard surface :(

Here is a quick pic of the OM10

Ive got the data back worcking now but date only goes upto 2009

Darren
you could make a pin hole lens by drilling a hole in a body cap taping some tin foil over the hole then making tiny pin prick in the foil!
Then all you need to do is to spend some time testing for correct exposure with your DSLR
Then put it on the canon 650 with a film in and get shooting

Think of the long exposure possibilities!
Dol goch falls with a lens thats probably arround f100(?)

How weird is that! I wonder why 2009 was the cut-off?

Looks like a nice bit of kit though - what's the 'manual adapter' thingy on the front?

Pete - Oly probably figured their questionable business practices would have been revealed by then, and the company would have gone bust! :D

Tokyo Police Investigate Olympus - WSJ.com

TOKYO—The Tokyo Metropolitan Police have started an investigation into Olympus Corp.'s attempt, admitted by the company Tuesday, to conceal investment losses that stem back to the 1990s, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Point of clarification requested from Hamish:

I have a bid in on a camera on E-bay. By the exchange rate I looked at last night I will be getting this camera--if I win it--for .88 cents US under the tenner.

Does the competition require that we buy film, or can we use what we already have?

Without the manual adapter you only get as manaul as aperture priority ... It adds the ability to switch to full manual ... And maybe shutter priority ... I can't remember the full details! The om10 is the same ...

You have to buy the film Brian .. But if you can get film for $1 I'm sure we could let you off ;)

Should have some lee-way as the exchange rate at the time the comp was set gave you $16.80 total to play with :)

Come to think of it, if the Eurozone fiasco kicks in towards December, we might have been able to buy better cameras in the US based on waiting for the exchange rate to strengthen! :D

Brian - there's a seller on Amazon.com that has cheap film prices - he charges it all in mailing costs, which means you can buy it for the comp without factoring in that chunk of change...

Here's a link - worth a browse through to see what you can get :)
