I Don't Believe It

This is the 2nd Konica Hexar I've tried to buy on ebay. For the first one, I received a message saying, "Sorry, I've already sold it to a friend", and now this from Japan:

"hello
I'm very sorry, because of our mistake,we sent a silver konica camera to you ,which has been bought by others .If you receive the post office notice,Please refuse to accept it, it will be returned to Japan, we will send this one to you as soon as possible , I'm very sorry to cause you inconvenience,Thank you."

Well, I might receive it yet...

Ah the infamous curse of the Hexar - or Hex for short ;)

I've decided to be nice to him, as he has over a thousand sales with 99 per cent positive feedback. We all make mistakes. He said he sent my camera to the guy who should have got the silver version, and that guy has now put it back in the post to him. Patience, Rob, patience...hopefully Santa will give him a helping hand.

Fingers crossed! (I wonder where the camera went, and how it was handled?) What are the return terms in case there is something wrong, Rob? After you first posted about it I went to the E-bay page you linked and it looks like the camera was in Japan but I'm not sure the bloke is--I think he's in Brazil. Not that that necessarily denotes something untoward, but it did surprise me a little.

I never noticed that, Brian. Hmm...I've also noticed that he has a no returns policy, although I am covered by eBay itself. I am wondering if I should cancel now, while it is still his fault, and he has not sent the item?

That's what I'd be doing I think. Or at least I'd be thinking seriously about it. One thing I have learned: There are plenty of cameras out there.

How did you pay?
How did he contact you about sending it back, through eBay or via email?

This sounds decidedly dubious ... Feedback is not all it's cracked up to be, accounts with high levels of positive feedback can be sold, or worse, hacked!
Usually dodgy sellers will request payment outside of PayPal ... Western Union for example.

It has all been through ebay, and I only ever pay with paypal.

Part of me is nervous, part of me thinks he genuinely made a mistake.

OK, I've asked for a full refund:

"I am getting worried. You seem to be in Canada, but trading from Japan. I am worried that there is no way of knowing if the camera has been tampered with by the guy you accidentally sent it to. You also have a no-returns policy. I therefore have decided to cancel this order. I hope you understand. Please let me have a full refund immediately."

I await his response. As all our communication has been through eBay, and he has sent the wrong camera, I should be on good ground.
