Cheap as Chips Challenge! RPF Photo Competition

Sweet! I'm really looking forward to this arriving. Let's hope it's not like half the other old camera that I get which are faulty in some manner! The joys of vintage photography!

Nice one Ben - looks like our most likely issues could be:

Battery - the original cells are no longer made, and were a weird voltage 1.35v instead of 1.5v - Wein do a replacement that is the correct voltage - search for Wein battery for Canonet

Battery: Canon Canonet QL17 QL19 FTB FTBn F1 | eBay

Using the wrong voltage battery effects the exposure meter - which can be corrected by halving the ISO you set apparently - i.e. you'd set 100 ASA for a 200 ASA film...

Light Seals - the foam light seals on the back door rot with age - and let light in! - May need cleaning off completely and replacing with some new foam. There are kits available. Cheap fix.

NEW LOW PRICE - LIGHT SEAL REPAIR KIT FOR VINTAGE CAMERAS | eBay

Sticky shutter - shellac degrades in the elements in front of the shutter - eventually falls into the shutter blades and causes sticking - probably a specialist repair job, unless you're adventurous!

Not that I've been doing my research! :D

Dave - you sure you're not a Yorkshireman? :D :D

Found a spotmatic f in a charity shop today with a jamed shutter

Tried to fix it but can't ...

Still the lens has gotta be worth £20 so still happy!

How do people feel about me taking the lens, callin it £2.50 (half the fiver) and trying to find a camera and film within the rest of the budget?

Posty just delivered the camera - looks nice! :)

Needs a good clean, and I think I'll have to stick a battery in it, once my film arrives.

Wooo hoooo! :D

Can't find a USB or Firewire port on it though - better RTFM... LMAO!

I have some Ilford HP5 on the way - figured I'd go all arty with my B&W...

Will do some test runs first - and probably put some colour film through as well - need to check the function/metering etc.

Camera cleaned up ok :)

Light seals look a bit knackered though - will probably be doing some surgery to replace

I'll throw a roll of Kodak 400 colour through it today and see if it's leaking!

my camera arrived yesterday and it is a MONSTER :D the seller put a film in with the package so that's me sorted !!

That wont win any beauty contests will it! Hopefully it looks that way because they didn't want to sacrifice image quality with compact optics.

i think it's in my nature to go for the quirky looking things lol
